We are constantly looking for new projects to support, and for contributors to existing efforts. Below is a list of projects currently underway; if you would like to contribute to a project please get in touch.

If you would like to be published with Rebel Press, please submit us your work. If we are passionate about the topic and it is in accordance with our publishing criteria, then we will readily support the project and aid in editing, proofing, design and printing. Please note that we do not generally pay authors.

Our Publishing Criteria: We publish quality anarchist and radical writing on a range of topics, including radical theory and analysis, histories, writing on identity, and fiction and poetry of an implicitly radical orientation. We prioritise publishing non-fiction and previously unpublished writing from the South Pacific. All texts published by Rebel Press are published without copyright, on the proviso that the text may not be resold for profit.

In the hands of the enemy:
stories and analysis about the October 15th state terror raids

This book is being put together by several of the arrestees in the October 15th state terror raids. We hope that it will educate and mobilise people to action about justice, freedom and tino rangatiratanga. We are seeking submissions from people immediately impacted by the raids (arrestees, friends and whanau, others who were raided) of writing, poetry, artwork or photo essay on the following subjects: personal experiences, political, social, historical or cultural analysis of the raids, different aspects of the raids (e.g. surveillance, legislation, prison and court).

DEADLINE: We want to have the book published by 15 August (in time for the deposition hearings) so submissions must be no later than 1 JULY.

SEND SUBMISSIONS TO: info@October15thSolidarity.info or post to Rebel Press PO Box 9263 Wellington

NOTES: With regard to artwork, it is likely that we will only be able to reproduce black and white. The title is just a working title and we would appreciate any suggestions for different titles, or thoughts about the proposed title (do you love it? Hate it?). We have a number of articles which were included in the journal Imminent Rebellion which will be in this book.

Voices Against the Wind:
A history of ethical vegetarianism and animal rights in Aotearoa

To refuse to eat meat or dairy products in a country where the economy relies heavily on the beef and dairy industries, and where the national dish is roast lamb, is to be a dissident and a rebel. To campaign for the rights of animals, is to go one step further. Voices against the wind seeks to tell the stories of vegetarians, anti-vivisectionists, and animal rights activists in Aotearoa from the time of the vegetarian tupuna Toi-Kai-Rakau of Te Tai Rawhiti up until the early twenty first century.

Drawing on both print and oral history sources, this project will acknowledge the hard work and courage of activists (many of them women) who have dedicated their lives to creating a more just world for all living beings. It will also show the linkages between political movements. Early vegetarians spoke out on a wide range of issues — from peace and labour rights to prison reform, and feminism. Many animal rights activists today are involved with a comparable range of issues. There are no boundaries to compassion, no limits to anger against injustice.

Vagina Dentata: A Radical Erotica Anthology

Sexual liberation is part of our struggle for personal and collective liberation. Like everything else in our culture, sexuality is highly censored and policed. We are constantly bombarded with sexual imagery and texts, but these dominant discourses of sexuality only serve to reinforce existing power inequalities. They tell us lies about our own sexuality, lies which are stifling, marginalising, often degrading and most of all, just plain dull!

There are few spaces for those of us whose sexuality transgresses the boundaries drawn by a patriarchal, heterosexist, phallocentric culture to raise our voices. But just as we've done in every other aspect of life, we will dig our own spaces and mark our own boundaries. We will tell our own stories.

Rebel Press invites you to contribute to Vagina Dentata: A Radical Erotica Anthology.

imminent rebellion (issue 10)

imminent rebellion is an anarchist journal that seeks to provide a space for thoughtful, critical and well-researched writing that illuminates struggles and projects otherwise overlooked in the South Pacific, that delves deeper into the anarchist project, and that seeks to illuminate the operations of Power. It is also a space for creative responses to our contemporary situation — poetry, photography, firsthand accounts.

The focus of the journal is to provide an intelligent yet accessible interrogation that is relevant to our region.

We are currently accepting contributions for issue ten. We prefer articles to be kept under 5,000 words, unless the text requires it. If you are interested in contributing, please get in touch at info@rebelpress.org.nz.

Deadline for contributions is not yet set, but will be towards the end of 2008 (October, November...).
